Calvin Magee is a theatre director, youth theatre practitioner, and forum theatre joker with a deep commitment to creating powerful and transformative theatre for and with communities.
Passionate about making theatre more accessible, Calvin works to amplify underrepresented voices and create meaningful engagement with the arts.
A graduate of Youth Theatre Ireland’s Facilitation Training Course (2022) and a participant in Graffiti Theatre Company’s ‘Graffiti:Way’ Programme (2024), Calvin brings a wealth of experience to his work. He currently serves as the Community Liaison Officer at M.A.D Youth Theatre, the Youth Theatre Coordinator at Nenagh Arts Centre/Nenagh Youth Theatre, and a facilitator with Run of the Mill Theatre Company and Barnstorm Theatre Company. In addition, he currently is the Theatre-Maker in Residence at An Táin Arts Centre, where he is examining the role that the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology can have in combating rising extremism, misinformation, and disinformation in Ireland.
In 2025, Calvin is set to direct M.A.D Youth Theatre’s production of Salt Mountain, an exploration of displacement and home, as well as DNA with Nenagh Youth Theatre. Calvin is currently also very interested in Sensory Theatre, Verbatim Theatre, and Physical Theatre. Calvin was awarded a YPCE Bursary Award in 2024 to investigate the impact of Verbatim Theatre in giving a voice to marginalized communities. Through his work, Calvin strives to create theatre that is inclusive, thought-provoking, and deeply impactful in an attempt to make the arts a tool for connection, expression, and change.
