Headspace is an award winning short film that seeks to place the lived experience of a character with an intellectual disability front and centre of the narrative. Headspace features an ensemble of disabled talent including Run of the Mill ensemble members Mark Smith, Jackie O’ Hagan and Bryan Busteed.
In this beautifully crafted narrative, we follow Tony (Mark Smith), a man who, despite his best efforts, doesn’t seem to be the master of his own destiny. People talk about him without him, and money orbits him without ever finding its way into his pocket. Living in a chaotic environment where he who shouts the loudest is heard the most, even a simple short-term solution– such as acquiring a new pair of headphones– is anything but simple.
Headspace is currently on the festival circuit and received its Irish premiere at Cork International Film Festival 2022 where it was awarded the Oscar Qualifying Grand Prix Best Irish Short and the nomination for the European Film Awards 2023. It received its North American Premiere at the prestigious New Hampshire Film Festival 2022 and its UK premiere at Manchester International Film Festival 2023. It has been selected for Vancouver International Women in Film Festival 2023 and will continue its festival journey throughout the year.
